Srinagar Jun 25: In an encounter between separatists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir a militant was killed and a soldier was injured on Friday, Jun 25.
The police Special Operations Group (SOG), soldiers from Rashtriya Rifles and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) surrounded a house in Krankshivan area of Sopore late Thursday, Jun 24 following a tip off that militants were holed up inside, said a police officer.
"The militants were asked to surrender but they fired at our men resulting in the gunfight," he said.
Separatist guerrillas did a string of attacks in the town, killing a policeman and injuring nine people. One militant was also killed.
A militant was killed and a security jawan was injured in a gunbattle in Sopore town of North Kashmir Friday morning, official sources said.
The firefight between the militants and the security forces took place in a house at Bagi-Islam Krankshivan locality of Sopore, 55 kms from here, when militants started fire on the joint party of police, 22 Rashtriya rifles and 17 CRPF battalion this morning, the sources said.
The gun-battle is still raging in the area when last reports came in.
