Chidambaram to release four Pak prisoners
New Delhi, Jun 25: Home Minister P Chidambaram ordered the release of four Pakistani prisoners bestowed to various prisons in Gujarat, in a goodwill gesture ahead of his visit to Pakistan. He ordered the release on Friday, Jun 25.
The statement released by the home ministry said that the prisoners will be repatriated from the Attari border on Jun 30, after which they will be handed over to Pakistan Rangers.
Chidambaram's two-day visit to Pakistan begins on Friday, Jun 25. This will be the first ministerial trip from India to Pakistan after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Chidambaram is expected to request an investigation against Hafiz Saeed, Lashkar e Taiba founder and seek the voice samples of the envoys involved in the Mumbai attacks. He will have a bilateral meeting with Pak Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
