Benchmarks end volatile session on flat note
Mumbai, Jun 24: The markets saw a volatile trading throughout the NSE F&O expiry day. The benchmarks travelled through the red and the green zone during the trading and ended on a flat note.
BSE Sensex was trading at 17,730.24, down 25.70 points, NSE Nifty was at 5320.60, down 2.55 points.
Realty, banks, oil & gas and metal stocks suffered selling while FMCG, capital goods and pharma stocks saw some bit of buying interest.
Among the top gainers on Nifty were HUL, Larsen, PNB, IDFC and ABB were up 1.1 to 1.8 per cent, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, HCL Tech, Unitech, Reliance Infra and Ambuja Cements dipped 2 to 3.5 per cent.

Mkts marginally up; L&T, ITC, HDFC gain
Riding on positive vibes from Reliance, L&T, ITC, HDFC, ONGC and ITC, the markets were trading marginally up. At 12: 49 pm, BSE Sensex was up 34.40 points or 0.19 per cent at 17790.34, and NSE Nifty was up 9.30 points or 0.17 per cent at 5332.45.
However, Infosys, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HCL Tech and Kotak Mahindra were weighing on the markets.
While buying was seen in capital goods, FMCG, metal, and power stocks; IT and banking stocks slipped.
Gainers on Sensex include L&T up 1.22 per cent, Tata Steel up 1.17 per cent, HUL up 1.03 per cent, HDFC up 0.84 per cent and Sterlite Ind up 0.71 per cent.

Nifty above 5300 mark with positive bias
Even though the indices are rangebound on F&O expiry date, Nifty was trading above the 5300 mark with positive bias. FMCG, capital goods, metal and realty stocks were witnessing buying.
At 11: 50 am, BSE Sensex was at 17,830.00, up 74.06 points, NSE Nifty was at 5345.05, up 21.90 points. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index were up 0.7 per cent and 1 per cent respectively.
Among the largecaps, IDFC, Suzlon Energy, Sterlite Industries, Larsen and PNB were up 1.4 to 2.5 per cent. The losers were HCL Technologies, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Ambuja Cements, TCS and Reliance Communications 0.6 to 3.4 per cent.
Among the heavyweights, Reliance was up 0.42 per cent, Cigarette major ITC was up 1.29 per cent, and refinery major HPCL was up 0.63 per cent. However, IT giant Infosys was down 0.4 per cent.
REI Six Ten, Hind Oil Exploration, Core Projects, Godrej Industries and Gee Kay Finance were the top midcap gainers while Kwality Dairy, Patni Computer, Blue Dart, Birla Corp and Yes Bank were down.

Nifty opens flat on F&O expiry date
At the opening bell on NSE F&O June series expiry, Nifty opened the day on a flat note. Sensex also followed the suit. Marginal selling was seen in IT and telecom stocks.
At 9:09 am, BSE Sensex rose 32.49 points or 0.18 per cent to trade at 17788.43, NSE Nifty gained 15.60 points or 0.29 per cent to trade at 5338.75.
Buying was seen in consumer durables, capital goods, metal, pharma and auto stocks.
