'Big gun' Rooney can "explode" against Germany: Low

By Super Admin

Cape Town, June 24(ANI): Germany coach Joachim Low reckons that England striker Wayne Rooney could "explode" into life after a disappointing stint in the World Cup so far.

Germany beat Ghana 1-0 to finish at the top of Group D, and set up a last-16 clash against England in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

It will be the seventh time the two countries have met in either the World Cup or European Championship finals.

"We are looking forward to taking on England. It's always special for us. There is a great history in the World Cup between us," The Daily Express quoted Low, as saying.

"Rooney may not have been a big gun so far, but he is always ready to explode. He is difficult to mark and control so our defence will need to watch that he doesn't score," he added.

Low further said that despite England's dismal opening Group C draws against the USA and Algeria, and an unconvincing win against Slovenia, he cant make the mistake of underestimating Fabio Capello's men.

"I have watched England's matches so far. They were struggling in the first two matches, but that is quite normal. Sometimes you only pick up speed as you go through the tournament," Low said.

"They haven't shown the best of form so far but, make no mistake, they are a wonderful team. England has enormous experience so this team is going to be incredibly dangerous," he added. (ANI)
