Wimbledon: Serena Williams sails into second round

London, Jun 23: Experienced Serena Williams smashed 17-year-old Michelle Larcher de Brito 6-0, 6-4 in the first round at Wimbledon to march into the second round.

It took Serena Williams just one hour and three minutes to defeat her first round Portuguese opponent on Tuesday, Jun 22 on the lush green meadows at SW19.

The reigning queen of Wimbledon dominated the game right from the start. While her young Portuguese opponent shaped up for the second set, Serena just played past de Brito's best and finished off with a win.

Having won 100 per cent of the points on her first serve, American said, "Well, I served so terrible my last match at the French. I went home and worked really hard on my serve."

The twelve time grand slam champion will be clashing against Anna Chakvetadze of Russia in the second round scheduled for Thursday, Jun 24.
