Kerala govt suspends IPS officer Thachankary

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 23: IPS officer Tomin J Thachankary was suspended on Wednesday, Jun 23 for visiting Qatar, with out prior information.

Home Ministry has written to Kerala Government about Thachankary that he is meeting some people with terrorist links in Qatar. Kerala CM VS Achuthanandan said that the administration will take necessary investigation and action on the information it received from the Centre.

Home Secretary GK Pillai had written to Kerala Chief Secretary about IPS officer's visit to Qatar. Achuthanandan said that Chief Secretary will take the essential steps on whatever letters he gets from the Centre. He refused to share the details on the issue.

Media reports said that Thachankary met some Keralites in the Gulf with terrorist links and allegedly offered them help to come to their home state. Reports also mentioned that the information was passed to the Home Ministry by External affairs ministry.

Thachankary was suspended some months before, for allegedly making a foreign trip without the permission from government, as prescribed by the rules. He had also faced suspension for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to the known sources of income.
