Dow Chairman avoids Indo-US CEO forum meeting
Washington, Jun 22: Andrew Liveris, Chairman and CEO of Dow Chemicals will not attend the Indo-US CEO Business Forum meeting, scheduled on Tuesday, Jun 22. The meet is scheduled to be held in Washington.
Dow spokesperson informed a news agency that the chief will not attend the meeting because of a prior engagement.
A high-level Indian delegation will attend the meeting, including Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma, Deputy Chairman's Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and some prominenet corporate leaders from India.
Dow Chemical Company bought Union Carbide in 1999. Union Carbide was responsible for the world's worst industrial disaster, Bhopal gas tragedy, in 1984.
The spokesman of Dow Chemicals said that the absence of Liveris in the meeting has nothing to do with the ongoing Bhopal controversy.
“Absolutely not and in no way related (to Bhopal controversy) as to why he cannot attend the CEO forum meeting, he already had a commitment that he could not move for this meeting otherwise he would be there," he said.
