Stockholm (Sweden), June 20 (ANI): Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée of Sweden married Olof Daniel Westling at Stockholm's Storkyrkan (Big Cathedral) at just after 15:30 on June 19.rincess Victoria is in line to become Sweden's fourth ever and first female queen since 1719.
In 1980 Sweden's Constitution was adjusted to allow the inheritance of the throne to be passed on to the oldest child irrespective of their gender.
The grand ceremony was attended by over one thousand guests, many of whom were from royal families across the world.
There has been a great media interest in the wedding, especially from Germany, which had the largest media contingent of all.
After completion of the wedding ceremony, at around 4:45 p.m., the couple took a horse drawn coach through the streets of Stockholm that were lined by people joyfully waving at them.
The cortege consisted of motorcycle police in the lead followed by horse guards from different units.
It stopped at the Vasa Museum from where the couple boarded the 'Vasaorden', an 18.6 meter long wooden 'slup' with a gold plated saloon that was built in 1923 using Swedish oak.
The boat was rowed by eighteen oarsmen in a very graceful manner around Skeppsholmen and Kastellholmen, past a flotilla of ships and a submarine whose crew saluted the royal couple as they passed.
At around 5:35 p.m., the boat docked at the steps in the front of the castle.
The entire procession was witnessed by about 500,000 people, who had thronged the streets and Stockholm water front.
The wedding was marked by two weeks of celebrations and events titled 'Love Stockholm 2010'.
While a small group of people had been protesting against making the wedding such a public event, the majority enjoyed watching it.
Most Stockholmers' were of the view that this was exactly what was needed to lift Sweden and bring it onto the international stage. (ANI)
