Kyrgyzstan to probe into ethnic violence
Bishkek, Jun 20: The interim government of Kyrgyztan promised a top US envoy that it will investigate deadly ethnic clashes on Saturday, Jun 19.
The clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks have killed up to 2,000 people and injured several thousands, reports the aid agencies and government officials.
The United Nations said on Saturday, Jun 19 informed that it was stepping up aid to the region after issuing an urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance.
Robert Blake, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, said investigations into the violence would be essential to create conditions for the safe return of refugees and the internally displaced. Robert Blakes said this after meeting with Kyrgyz acting government.
