Rustenburg: Ghana failed to capitiliaze their one-man advantage as they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Australia during their Group D clash at Rustenburg.

The Socceroos took the lead in the 11th minute after Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson, failed to collect the ball and was made to pay by incoming player Brett Holman, but Asamoah Gyan in the 25th minute levelled from the penalty spot after Hary Kewell had handled the ball in the near the goal line. Jonathan Mensah had shot the ball which was likely to find the net only to be denied by Kewell's arm who was trying to get the ball away.

Kewell who was featuring for the first time in this year's World Cup was shown a red-card for the offense. He was furious on referee's decision and was asking the referee to watch the replay but the referee was firm with his decision.

Australia with their experienced striker out and down to 10-minute looked very vulnerable as Ghana attack kept on pressing for the second goal. However, Lucas Niell and his defense line-up managed to frustrate the Ghana strikers, making them take wild shots from long range and thus denying a loss for Australia.

Ghana was dominating play in mid-field all the while and towards the end of the first half, Kevin-Prince Boateng hit a fine shot on goal, but his shot was denied by Australian goal-keeper, Mark Schwarzer to Ghana a lead.

In Ghana seemed to lose their gas and they were misplacing passes, overhitting crosses and taking long rangers. Meanwhile, it was Australia who came the closest in finding a winner.
The draw means Ghana are on top of the group with four points, followed by Germany and Serbia on three and Australia at the bottom of the group with just one point.
