No locus standi on Bhopal: Arjun Singh
New Delhi, Jun 19: The former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Arjun Singh, who has been facing flak over his alleged role in helping the main accused of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy and the then CEO of Union Carbide, Warren Anderson, escape, has washed his hands off the issue.

"I have no locus standi on this issue," Singh is quoted as saying in a leading national newspaper.

This is his first ever comment on the raging issue, which is invited public ire over not only Warren Anderson's escape but also the light sentences given to the convicts in the case.

With this statement, Arjun Singh conveniently passes the buck to the Centre.

The Congress-led UPA government has been facing heat over the issue since the local court's verdict. Several questions have, especially, been raised against Congress after the then foreign secretary M K Rasgotra said that it was the Rajiv Gandhi government that promised 'safe passage' to Anderson.
