Phagwara, Jun 18: A young migrant couple were found brutally murdered in the farm house in Maheru on Thursday, Jun 17.
Khushboo Kumari (19) and Kamlesh Kumar Yadav (22) were killed by the girl's family for defying their families and marrying out of their caste. The couples were tracked down and killed in Punjab, on the run from their homes.
Both the victims belonged to Majiana village of Bihar. The girl was an upper caste Brahmin and the boy belonged to backward Yadav caste. This affair was not acceptable to the girl's family.
The couple had a court marriage nearly three months back and reached village Maheru in Phagwara district recently. They started living in a room built for tubewell in the farm of Amarjit Singh, the 'sarpanch' (head) of a nearby village.
They were killed in their sleep on the roof of a room in the field. The victims' throats were slit and police said that it was an honour killing.
Police registered a case against the girl's father, Arvind Sharma, charging him with murder. Punjab police said that they will send a team to Bihar to look for Sharma.
