Hurriyat chief, Farooq arrested in Srinagar
Srinagar, Jun 17: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of Moderate Hurriyat Conference was arrested in Srinagar on Thursday, Jun 17.

Mirwaiz and a dozen colleagues were arrested while leading a protest march to the UN Military Observer Group for India and Pakistan at Sonawar. They were going to submit a memorandum regarding alleged 'unabated' human rights violations in Kashmir.

The executive members of Amalgam, who were arrested with Mirwaiz include including Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat, Bilal Ghani Lone, Mohammad Abdullah Tari, Maulana Masroor Abbas Aansari, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Aga Syed Hassan Alsafvi Almoosvi.

Police asked Mirwaiz and colleagues to disperse as the prohibitory orders were tightened in the city. They refused and Police forcibly bundled them into a vehicle.

Mirwaiz was arrested outside the building of Radio Kashmir and taken to Khotibagh police station.
