New Delhi, Jun 16: GK Pillai, Union Home Secretary, has convened an emergency meeting in the wake of crisis that has gripped Manipur owing to the highway-blockade imposed by Naga students.
GK Pillai has invited the Chief Secretaries of Nagaland and Manipur for the meeting on Wednesday, Jun 16. Pillai wants to discuss about the measures taken by both states, Nagaland and Manipur, to keep the National Highway-39 open.
The central government mentioned the blockade continuing in Manipur, as 'a matter of serious concern'.
Home Minister P Chidambaram had spoken to the two Chief Ministers, urging them to take necessary steps to have the blockade withdrawn. Some splinter Naga groups have informed that they will be continuing the blockade to protest against the prevention implemented by Manipur on Naga leader Thuingaleng Muivah from visiting his birthplace in Manipur.
