Mysterious illness in Bihar, 20 children dead
Patna, Jun 11: Twenty children have died due to a mysterious disease in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, reported the officials on Friday, Jun 11.
Eight demised in the last forty eight hours. Another dozens of children have been admitted to different hospitals for the treatment, informed a government health official.
A district civil surgeon, Dr AP Singh said that the cause of the deaths could not be found out yet. The children reported high fever followed by courses of convulsions and unconsciousness, leading to death.
The district administration has sounded high alert to check the spread of this mysterious disease.
The local people who call this disease by the name 'chamki ki bimari', say that the symptoms reckon with encephalitis, the disease which causes inflammation of the brain.
"We cannot say anything exactly about the mysterious disease. It is difficult to say that children died of encephalitis. A medical team from Patna visited hospitals Thursday for investigations," Dr Singh said.
The health officials from State health department say that there were no facilities in Bihar, to identify encephalitis.
