Drogba could play against Portugal: Coach

By Samyuktha

Johannesburg, Jun 11: Against reports that Didier Drogba's arm injury could keep him away from Ivory Coast's first match against Portugal, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has said that there is a very good possibility of the team captain playing the match.

"If the game had been today or tomorrow, he wouldn't play. But there are still some days. He might play against Portugal," Eriksson told reporters on Thursday, Jun 11, when he arrived here for the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2010.

32-year-old Drogba broke his arm during a friendly match against Japan on Jun 4. The injury forced the centre forward into surgery.

Ivory Coast's first match for the World Cup is scheduled for next Tuesday, Jun 15 in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth.

Ivory Coast, in Group G, is in one of the toughest groups as it has to face teams like North Korea and Brazil.

But the coach, who seemed undeterred by this, said, "It is a difficult group, but we will be well prepared and we will do everything to play well against the other teams."
