Melbourne, June 10 (ANI): A secret investigation carried out by an ombudsman has revealed that foreign students in Australia are cheating and getting special treatment to ensure they get their degrees.

The Herald Sun reported that some prestigious Victorian universities like the RMIT and Monash University are involved in the scam.

It found that some international students who failed tests at RMIT were allowed to keep sitting the same exams until they passed. Investigators from the ombudsman's office are believed to have discovered the cheating during an investigation into other damaging claims against RMIT.

It is to be noted that RMIT's 26,000 international students bring in almost 204 million dollars a year to the university.

The university is supposed to respond to the allegations once the final report is tabled.

Similarly, Monash University is also facing the charges.

Bob Birrell, who is a researcher in the university, claimed that some international students who got degrees didn't have enough English to get a job in Australia in their chosen fields.

Though he couldn't comment on the Ombudsman's report, as he was not aware of its contents. (ANI)
