Lahore, Jun.9 (ANI): Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt sees the responsibility of vice-captaincy as a challenge, but wants be given ample time to prove his mettle in the new role.
"In the present circumstances holding the place as deputy is a difficult and challenging task," Salman said.
"When an important decision of appointing someone as vice captain is taken, a miracle should not be expected immediately and the person should be given some time to settle. One should not end confidence in him in a month or after a single series," he added.
This is the second time that Salman has been handed over the responsibility of a vice-captain, and the left-handed batsman is hopeful that he will not be treated like the previous occasion this time around.
The Lahore-based cricketer was appointed Shoaib Malik's deputy during the 2007-08 season but he was later replaced by Misbahul Haq.
"In sports, performance is shown on the field and in my case I was not given a fair chance to deliver in the matches. But I am hopeful that this time I will be given rightful chances," The Daily Times quoted Salman, as saying.
He also welcomed the return of both Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar in the national squad, and said that he always had great respect for senior players in the team.
"My point of view is that one should give respect to others to get respect," Salman added. (ANI)
