Washington, June 9 (ANI): An expert on climate change has revealed that seven out of ten Americans feel that the United States should take action to power the nation with clean energy.

According to Edward Maibach, Director, Centre for Climate Change Comunication, a majority of Americans surveyed feel that carbon dioxide regulation is a must.

"The stabilization and slight rebound in public opinion is occurring amid signs the economy is starting to recover, along with consumer confidence, and as memories of unusual snowstorms and scientific scandals recede. The BP oil disaster is also reminding the public of the dark side of dependence on fossil fuels, which may be increasing support for clean energy policies." Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication was quoted, as saying.

In other findings of the survey, 71 per cent people stressed for development of sources of clean energy as a high priority for the government, whereas 44 per cent believed that global warming should be the top-most priority. Similarly, 77 percent people supported regulation of carbon dioxide as a pollutant and 87 percent stood for funding more research into renewable energy sources.

The survey was conducted on 1,024 American adults of the age group of eighteen or more, and was weighted to correspond with U.S. Census Bureau parameters. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus three percent, with 95 percent confidence. (ANI)
