London, Jun 8 (ANI): Spanish superstar David Villa has surprisingly backed England to win the World Cup, branding Fabio Capello's team 'The Perfect Generation.'
In recent years, England team is brimming with talent and is seen as capable of ending decades of World Cup draught by winning a major tournament.
Villa, who joined Barcelona in a 35 million pounds switch from Valencia last month, went one better and came up with a memorable moniker, The Sun reports.
"Yes, England is good enough to win the World Cup. Absolutely. They are a bit like Spain, aren't they? The fact is, they have always had good teams and they have found it difficult in the big competitions. But the day will come, won't it?
"I think they have a perfect generation to make it to the final - and they will surely be one of the teams to beat," The Sun quoted Villa, as saying.
"Individually, England has some of the best players in defence, midfield as well as attack. They have a great manager and a team that can perfectly well reach the final. I like a lot of their players but this season I would pick out Wayne Rooney.
"Frank Lampard also had a marvellous season and I have a special kind of admiration for Steven Gerrard. He's a player I like a lot. He has a lot of quality, energy, a great shot, huge talent and a winning mentality," Villa said.
England kicks off their bid against the USA in Rustenburg on Saturday. (ANI)
