Shearer backs 'experienced' England squad to win World Cup

By Super Admin

London, June 7(ANI): Former England striker Alan Shearer reckons that Fabio Capello's squad has the experience to go all the way in the World Cup in South Africa.

He, however, warns that if they have to win they will need to master the dreaded penalty shootouts.

"I think we look very strong and if we don't get any more injuries, then we have a chance, there's no doubt about it," The Sun quoted Shearer, as saying.

"We have an experienced squad. It is the second-oldest squad after Italy, so we have a lot of players who know what they are doing and that will put us in good stead."

"I'd love to see us win it, but we will need a bit of luck and probably have to win a penalty shootout somewhere down the line," he added.

In the past, England has crashed out in spot-kick drama against Portugal, Argentina and Germany, and Shearer believes that Capello's side could face the 12-yard test again.

The Three Lions are pitted against USA, Algeria and Slovenia in Group C. (ANI)
