Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), June 6 (ANI): Suspected Maoists burnt down a forest rest house in the Mader range of Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Saturday.

The incident was carried out by at least 50 Maoists carrying guns and wearing uniforms on the first day of their weeklong 'Jan Pituri' (Revolutionary Week) that commenced on Saturday.

Constructed in 1980, the government-owned building was completely gutted in the fire. However, no casualties were reported in the incident, said officials.

Maoists also left a note written in red coloured ink, warning people to stay away from the security forces.

The Rest House is located in close proximity of the offices of the police and paramilitary forces deployed in the region to counter Maoists.

The District Police headquarters and Central Reserve Paramilitary Force (CRPF) camps are situated within two miles of the targeted area.

Chhattisgarh has become a hub of radical Maoist activity, and has faced brunt of some of the most vicious attacks in the recent past

The Maoists, termed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as India's largest internal security threat, have spread into rural pockets in 20 of India's 28 states and the movement has upset business prospects worth billions of dollars in mining industries in central and eastern parts of India. (ANI)
