Kaneria challenges ECB's county ban

By Super Admin

Islamabad, Jun.5 (ANI): Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has challenged the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) decision to suspend his registration from the county championship following a match fixing scandal.

A spokesman for the ECB has confirmed that Kaneria has appealed against the board's decision while denying any wrongdoings, The Daily Times reports.

The ECB had sent letters to both Kaneria and his Essex teammate fast bowler Mervyn Westfield which stated that they would remain suspended from their county team until the police investigates their alleged involvement in match fixing.

Both cricketers were arrested last month and interviewed at Brentwood police station about alleged irregularities during a Pro-40 League game against Durham last September.

However, neither of them have been charged and are out on bail until September 15.

Neither the ECB nor the Essex team management has taken any disciplinary action against the players, but if their registrations stand cancelled, it would prevent both Kaneria and Westfield from playing in any international tournament. (ANI)
