Indian-origin Ohio girl wins 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee

Washington, June 05 (ANI): Indian origin girl Anamika Veeramani, 14, from North Royalton, Ohio, has won the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee.

She is the third consecutive Indian-American to win the competition and the eighth in the last 12 years.

She landed 40,000 dollars in cash and prizes after spelling the medical word "stromuhr" correct in the final round.

She spelled "juvia", a Brazil nut, in a round before the last stage.

There was a three-way tie for the second position, Fox News reports.

Adrian Gunawan, 14, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; Elizabeth Platz, 13, of Shelbina, Mo.; and Shantanu Srivatsa, 13, of West Fargo, N.D., all got eliminated in the same round. (ANI)
