London, June 4(ANI): Teen British tennis star Laura Robson has apologised for branding her rivals on the international circuit as "sluts who go with every guy".
Robson, who became the youngest British player to win the Junior Wimbledon title in 2008, had made the controversial remarks in an interview and glamorous photo shoot with Vogue magazine.
"I would just like to say a big sorry to anyone that I may have offended in an interview published recently. I made a totally inappropriate, throwaway comment without considering the consequences," News.com.au quoted Robson, as having told The Times.
"I still have a lot to learn both on and off the court, and clearly I need to be a lot more careful about how silly remarks may come across when taken out of context."
"I live for tennis, I have many good friends in the game and I would never want to do anything that could hurt the reputation of a game I love. I will learn a lot from this and now just want to focus on my tennis," she added.
Earlier, the 16-year-old's remark had sparked a controversy, where she also accused fellow players of having wild nights out, drinking and smoking.
"Some of the tennis girls, they're sluts. They go with every guy and make such a bad name for themselves - and you don't want to be known for stuff like that. You want to be more discreet," Robson had said. (ANI)
