London, June 1(ANI): A new survey has revealed that British football fans are bracing themselves for a two billion pound spending splurge during the World Cup.
During the one-month event, which starts off on June 11, the fans are set to splash out on TVs, booze, betting, takeaways and clothes.
According to survey of fans' habits carried out by Chicago Town, more than half a billion pounds will go on huge plasma screen TVs, a staggering 312 million pounds will be spent on football shirts and the total booze bill could top 475 million pounds if England makes it to the final on July 11.
"As a nation the English have shown that they intend to get right behind the team," The Daily Star quoted a Chicago Town spokesman, as saying.
"We're certainly going to make a huge national party out of the World Cup tournament whether we win or lose," he added.
It will also be soaked up with 90 million pounds of takeaway curries and pizzas.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for betting firm Paddy Power said: "We're expecting this World Cup to be one of the biggest betting events ever with at least 750 million pounds being splurged."
"And hopes for a successful England campaign could make the total even higher," the spokesman added. (ANI)
