Cape Town, May 29(ANI): Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra has told England striker Wayne Rooney that he has kept him quiet once and he will do it again when they meet in Cape Town on June 18.
The former Charlton defender hopes to repeat his performance during a February 2007 Premier League game between Charlton and Manchester United, where Bougherra feels that he had succeeded in keeping Rooney quiet.
"I faced him when Charlton were in the Premier League. After moving from Sheffield Wednesday in January 2007, I only played five games in England's top flight, but one was at Old Trafford and I can tell you that I managed to keep Rooney off the scoresheet," The Sun quoted Bougherra, as saying.
"I'd love to do it again when we face England," he added.
The 27-year-old admits that he has been looking forward to facing Rooney ever since the World Cup draw was made six months ago.
"From the moment the World Cup finals draw was made, I've been looking forward to tackling Rooney," Bougherra said.
"It's the ultimate test for any defender, just as tough as facing Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but I like these moments when I play the best players in the world as I learn more."
"I've watched Rooney on TV, now I'm looking forward to playing against him once more," he added. (ANI)
