Sachin Tendulkar raises funds for cancer-afflicted children

Mumbai, May 28 (ANI): A simple message posted by Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar on social networking site 'Twitter' raised over Rs ten million for a cancer charity.

The response to Tendulkar's post on his Twitter feed was overwhelming, raising Rs 10.25 million within two weeks of the appeal, called Sachin's Crusade Against Cancer in Children.

Earlier on Thursday, Tendulkar presented a bat signed by him to the donors and thanked them at an event organized by the 'Crusade Against Cancer Foundation'.

"This wouldn't have been possible if wonderful people like you wouldn't be there in this world. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for having donated generously," said Tendulkar.

"Some have donated massive amounts. Some have donated in spite of having lot of problems, financial problems. They have been generous enough and courageous enough and helpful enough to donate to the needy ones," he added.

Tendulkar urged more contributions and participation in the charity for cancer patients.

"We have received better response than what we expected. All the donors who have donated generously, irrespective of donated amount, even the donation of 100 or 200 rupees really matter to us," said Tendulkar. (ANI)
