Imphal, May 27 (ANI): Long queues of vehicles formed outside petrol filling stations in Imphal, as the economic blockade on the state was temporarily lifted on Wednesday.

Stocks of petroleum products were brought into the state after oil tankers in Jiribam city were escorted back to Imphal.

In the wake of the successful entry of 290 trucks into the city, the state government issued orders for the distribution of cooking and vehicular fuels amongst the general public, institutions and farmers.

Despite the orders, fuels remained in short supply leading to rationing, which further aggravated the locals long suffering the lack of essential commodities since the blockade began on April 12.

"According to government's order, we will get 10 litres for four wheelers and five litres for two wheelers," said Zemang, a local.

The economic blockade was imposed by the All Naga Students' Association of Manipur (ANSAM) against the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Elections. (ANI)
