London, May 27(ANI): British bin men have been warned that they will be sacked if they fly England flags on their lorries during next month's World Cup in South Africa.
Bin lorry bosses claim the flags could block drivers' view of the road leading to accidents.
"We take the safety of our staff and customers seriously. Large or badly-positioned flags could reduce visibility," The Daily Star quoted Doug Teesdale, manager of Ealing Council's waste contractor May Gurney, as saying.
However, angry council workers reckon that the move is political correctness gone mad.
"They're pretty angry as they weren't allowed flags on St George's Day, but the World Cup is the one that matters and they want to support their team," said Matt Perry, a pal of a binman.
"It seems we are the only country in the world where supporters can't fly their flags. They are very proud to support England and being told they could be sacked is a step too far."
"People are being made to feel ashamed of supporting their team," he added.
Meanwhile, Laura Midgley, from the Campaign Against Political Correctness, said: "This serves no purpose other than annoying people." (ANI)
