Karachi, May 24 (ANI): Pakistan T20 skipper Shahid Afridi was urged to reconsider his decision of not playing Test matches on the request of team manager Yawar Saeed, insiders have revealed.
Ending his self-exile from Test cricket on Saturday, Afridi had said that he is available for the upcoming tour of England.
"It has a very hard decision for me because I have wanted to devote more time to my family and playing all forms of the sport the year round has not been my cup of tea," Afridi, who has not played in the longer version of the game since 2006, had said during a press conference here.
According to sources, Afridi is likely to meet the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt today (Monday), or Tuesday to stake his claim for captaincy for the forthcoming Asia Cup and the England tour.
"Yawar is playing a key role in cricket affairs these days from behind the scenes. He has a big influence on the decisions being taken by Afridi and also by Ijaz," The Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.
"Yawar has given Ijaz a complete briefing on the way the players behaved and on the atmosphere of the team in the Twenty20 World Cup under Afridi's captaincy. He is the one who is trying to convince Ijaz that Afridi is the best choice to lead Pakistan in all formats in England," sources added. (ANI)
