Tamang murder: suit against GJM chief and wife

Darjeeling, May 23: Darjeeling police filed suit against Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader Bimal Gurung and his wife for alleged involvement in the assassination of Madan Tamang, the Akhila Bharatiya Gorkha League President, in Darjeeling.

Madan Tamang was attacked by unknown assailants and killed, on Friday May 21. Police took the action in accordance with the

FIR lodged by ABGL General Secretary Laxman Pradhan against GJM, a couple of hours after his assassination.

Laxman Pradhan had named Gurung and his wife Asha, GJM General Secretary Roshan Giri, GJM central committee members Pradeep Pradhan, Benoy Tamang, Harka Bahadur Chhetri and GOrkhaland Personnel (GLP) Chief Col (Rtd) Ramesh Allay for the 'conspiracy' behind the murder. GJM's Police wing is GLP.

Pradhan had also involved other names of GJM's sub-divisional leaders including Puran Thami, Dinesh Gurung and Tenzing Khambachay, Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha Chief Alok Kant Thulung and Gorkha Janmukti Vidyarthi Morcha leaders, Keshavraj Pokhrel and Kismat Chhetri, in the FIR of Madan Tamang murder case.

"We've registered cases under Sections 120B and 302 of IPC against the persons named in the FIR. So far, we've detained 45 people in connection with the murder," informed North Bengal IGP Kundan Lal Tamta.
