Sydney, May 22(ANI): Former Australian cricketer Brendan Mcardle believes that England's win in last weekend's Twenty20 World Cup final against the Australians will ensure an even contest in next summer's Ashes series.

"Memories of the 5-0 whitewash of four years ago are still vivid, but it [World Cup win] was proof that at least England's thinking is on the right track," Mcardle writes in an article for the Sydney Morning Herald.

"One of the obvious things about the two finalists is that they've at last got their acts together in this form of the game. Australia rectified its ills last summer and has played well since, while England's form was a massive turnaround after years of confused selection and tactics," he added.

Mcardle further said that England certainly seems better organised than it has in the past, and praised new bowling coach David Saker for making his bowlers deliver.

"Its bowling selection and tactics had the fingerprints of David Saker all over them: changes of pace and the slow bouncer were his specialty with the Bushrangers' attack last summer, and both were evident in England's campaign," Mcardle said.

"Saker is also an unabashed fan of Ryan Sidebottom, and the left-armer's selection ahead of the more highly credentialled James Anderson was a masterstroke," he added. (ANI)
