Giving up 300 acres of Posco site ridiculous: CPI
Bhubaneshwar, May 21: Terming Orissa government's decision of excluding 300 acres from being given to POSCO as a 'ridiculous idea', the CPI on Friday, May 21 demanded that the entire proposed site should be shifted elsewhere.
"Giving up only 300 acres of private land is a ridiculous idea. This cannot be a solution. We want the whole project to be shifted from the area identified near Paradip," CPI general secretary AB Bardhan said here.
A meeting was held between the chief minister Naveen Patnaik, four MLAs and one CPI MP from Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday, May 20.
BArdhan dubbed the outcome of the meeting as 'very disappointing' and went on say that leaving out 300 acres was meaningless as the proposed Posco site requires 4000 acre land.
The CPI leader not only demanded a 'white paper' on the Rs 52,000 crore steel project but also pressed for the government to shift the plant site to elsewhere in Jagatsinghpur district itself or in areas bordering Puri district citing that the displacement of people would be less in these areas.
