London, May 19: Spanish premier league champions Barcelona is preparing for a bid of whopping amount 80 millions pounds for Manchester United and England ace-striker Wayne Rooney.
Two times 'Footballer of the Year' Rooney, 24, was with England"s squad in the Austrian Alps unaware of Barcelona making discreet moves to take him to La Liga.
The European giants are hoping to get the striker like Real Madrid managed to get Christiano Ronaldo and strengthen their side on and off the pitch. Barcelona was knocked out of the prestigious champion's league in the semi finals losing to Italian club Inter Milan on aggregate.
Coach Pep Guardiola is keen to restore the side to the top immediately and will seek reinforcements according to daily express reports.
Barcelona has also been in the process to sign Valencia striker David Villa and Cesc Fabregas who is willing to join the club if his club lets him leave. Besides, there has also been talks that the club is eying on Liverpool striker Fernando Torres as well.
The Barcelona camp has activated agents to sound out the possibility of a Rooney move.
Rooney is still under contract with Manchester United until 2012, but selling the club"s biggest asset will help them prevent making a loss of millions of pounds.
