Kameer Pura (Ajnala Sector), May 18 (ANI): Many villages at the Punjab's border want the bridge over "Saki Nallah" to be strengthened.

The bridge has just one passage route that connects over 15 villages of the border area to the Ajnala sector.

The villages have been demanding that a modern bridge should be constructed.

The Sakki Nallah drains floodwaters from the villages during the rainy season.

Children from the adjoining areas of Kameerpura use the bridge for their to and fro journey to school. The schoolteachers help the children to come to cross the 30 mtrs long narrow bridge.

Many schoolchildren have been injured crossing the bridge in the past.

"But what can we do, we have approached each and every concerned official, despite false promises by successive leaders to get a permanent solution. But the problem remains the same", complaind a villager.

Villagers recall that some time ago the bridge was completely damaged. They had renovated it for temporary use.

"It seems that all development work is done in the urban areas and no resources are available to be spent in the rural areas," said Major Singh, a Nambardar .

P. S. Guman, Executive engineer with the Punjab irrigation department, however said that the Punjab government with the help of Central Government is spending rupees 118 crore to construct arious small and big bridges on the "Sakki Nallah" and they are now taking Kameerpura bridge on the priority list."
