Cyclone alert: Andhra coast to be pounded by rains
Hyderabad, May 18: A cyclone alert has been sounded across the coastal Andhra Pradesh and fishermen have been asked to refrain from venturing out into the sea as the weather officials have predicted that a cyclone is expected to hit the region soon.
Informing of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify and hit the AP coast, officials have forecasted widespread rains accompanied by strong winds of 45 to 55 km per hour in the region.
In a bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the depression over the Bay of Bengal was centered about 1,000 km southeast of Visakhapatnam.
The state is expected to witness very heavy to heavy rains starting from Wednesday, May 19.
Even though the news of cyclone is not always received with a smile, the people of the state may get the much-needed relief from the scorching heat of the summer thanks to the Bay of Bengal depression.
