London, May 16 (ANI): The Queen will be cheering British No. 1 Andy Murray at Centre Court in Wimbledon this year. She hasn't attended a Wimbledon match in over 30 years, but has decided to make an exception for Murray.
Murray had earlier received a letter of congratulations from the Queen for winning at Queen's, the traditional warm-up tournament for Wimbledon.
Royal aides say the Queen is interested in tennis and will attend this year during the first week of the tournament, which is the oldest in the world, regardless of the success or failure of British players, the Telegraph reports.
British players have had a poor run in the prestigious tournament's history with the last player to bag the single's title being Virginia Wade, way back in 1977. The last British male player to win the coveted shield was Fred Perry in 1936. (ANI)
