According to the NM Joshi Marg police, the accused Prakash Amdaskar, an employee of a firm that installs CCTV cameras, arrived at the victim's house in Lower Parel at around 5.00 am.
Police said that Amdaskar, who was under the spell of alcohol, pounced on the victim as soon as she opened the door.
The accused raped the victim infront of her 15-year-old son, who woke up due to the scuffle and tried in vain to save her mother.
The victim lodged a police complaint after Amdaskar left the house.
"We have arrested Amdaskar and taken the statement of the victim's son, as he was the only witness in the case," said Senior Police Inspector Vasant Tajne of NM Joshi Marg police station.
"We have sent the victim and the accused for medical examination," he added.
"We are now investigating if the duo had relationship in the past," said Tajne.
Amdaskar has been charged with rape and trespassing, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and criminal intimidation, under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
