New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a high-level probe into the tragic stampede incident that left two persons as dead and about 40 others injured at the New Delhi Railway Station on Sunday.

Reacting to the incident, Ms. Mamata reportedly cited inability to prevent such incidents and held passengers responsible for such incidents.

"The incident could have occurred following rumour, a private channel quoted Ms. Mamata as saying about today's incident.

The Minister, however, announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs.200,000 for the kin of the dead and Rs.50,000 each for the injured persons. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Railways E. Ahmed has assured of taking action against the guilty officials.

However, General Manager Northern Railways has admitted that there was a last-minute change in the platforms and any short-coming leading to the incident would be probed.
