TN govt sets up panel to probe 'threat' to Nalini
Chennai, May 13: The Tamil Nadu government has set up a probe panel to look into the alleged threat to the Rajiv Gandhi assassin Nalini Sriharan's life.
Nalini, who is serving life sentence for her role in the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, had earlier claimed that she faces threat to her life in the prison and is also being assaulted by jail authorities.
In response to these allegations, the law minister Durai Murugan on Thursday, May 13 announced in the assembly that a committee headed by a top prison official, has been set up to probe into the matter.
The committee, which also includes a woman prison official, is expected to submit a report soon.
"Nalini has petitioned officials regarding some grievances and made some allegations. The committee was formed early this month following her complaints and grievances. This committee will verify the charges and submit a report soon," the minister said.
The statement came in response to a query raised by Congress' C Gnasekaran.
