New Delhi, May 7: While the death of a Delhi journalist hit the headlines as a possible case of honour killing, the mother of Nirupama Pathak has levelled allegation of rape and sexual exploitation on her deceased daughter's boyfriend.
In response to a petition filed by Nirupama's mother, a court in Jharkhand's Koderma has reportedly asked the police to register sexual abuse and cheating cases against Nirupama's boyfriend Priyabhanshu Ranjan.
The mother, Sudha, is currently in custody now as the Jharkhand police is investigating the honour killing angle into Nirupama's death.
Priyabhanshu lured her daughter in pretext of marrying her and sexually exploited, the mother said in her petition.
Sudha added that Nirupama was three-month pregnant at the time of her death. She was disappointed when Priyabhanshu refused to marry her and therefore killed herself, the mother claimed.
Jharkhand police has already started questioning Priyabhanshu, who is in the national capital. The officers have seized his cellphone to see if the SMSes exchanged by the couple has any clues that would help the police with the investigation.
Since Nirupama's death, the family of the 22-year-old has been claiming that she killed herself by hanging. However, when it emerged that the girl was in a relationship with a boy from a different class, which Nirupama's family did not agree of, the angle of honour killing emerged.
Moreover, the post-mortem report revealed that Nirupama's death was not a suicide and stated that she was smothered to death. It also revealed that Nirupama was 10-12 weeks pregnant.
Nirupama's father and brothers have already been questioned in connection with the case.
