Bhubaneshwar, May 5: A man in khakhi expected to protect turned into a predator in Orissa. A police officer in the state's Bhadrak district was on Monday, May 3 arrested for allegedly raping a woman, who came to him seeking protection and justice.
The woman was raped by the police officer on Apr 30 when she went to meet him at his residence over a dowry complaint she had lodged against her husband and in-laws.
The accused officer, identified as Narayan Chandra Nayak, is the inspector in-charge of Dhusauri police station.
Sub-divisional police officer Suresh Das, who is dealing with the criminal case, informed a news agency that Nayak was also produced before a court on Monday, May 3.
According to the 30-year-old victim's complaint, Nayak had called her to his official residence near the police station and raped her.
