Language, culture prevents Real Madrid from bidding for Rooney in 2010

By Super Admin

London, May 2 (ANI): Spanish football giants Real Madrid have ditched plans to launch a summer bid for England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, because they fear he won't be able to settle in Spain.

According to The Mirror, Bernabeu president Florentino Perez has abandoned the project after Real's coaching staff warned him Rooney might struggle if taken away from his roots in the North-West of England.

The main worry was about overcoming the language barrier and cultural differences.renchman Karim -Benzema has had similar problems and been unable to settle in the Spanish capital following his 30-million-pound arrival from Lyon.

Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has maintained all year his top scorer would not be allowed to follow Ronaldo to Spain.

United are prepared to make Rooney the biggest earner in their history to keep him happy.

They want to seal a contract extension with the 24-year-old worth 45-million-pound over five years - about 175,000 pounds a week - before the World Cup in June. (ANI)
