DMK Chief to meet Sonia Gandhi, PM

New Delhi, May 2: In a damage control move, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi reached New Delhi on Sunday, May 2, to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhto discuss the political developments in the last one year.

The DMK chief is expected to bring up the issue of A Raja who is embroiled in the 2G controversy along with the issues of Sri Lankan Tamils during his meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Sing.

The Telecom Minister has been charged with two major allegations, one being the 2G scam whci allegedly to a loss of60,000 crore rupees and the second is his alleged telephone call to a Madras high court judge seeking a favorable order.

Raja's office was recently raided by the CBI in connection with the spectrum scam, but the Telecom Minister maintains that he is being targetted because he is a dalit.

This is the first visit by Karunanidhi after he left the capital displeased on May 22, 2009, complaining about the Congress' formula for allotting berths to DMK in UPA-II.

During his two-day visit which is primarily for a meeting with the Planning Commission to finalise the state's annual allocation plan, the DMK Chief will also meet President Pratibha Patil to invite her for the inauguration ceremony of the 9th World Tamil Conference.
