Mumbai, May 1: The Maharashtra golden jubilee celebrations is a grand affair with political parties competing with each other to prove who loves the state more.
Celebrations marking the completion of fifty years since the formation of the state include several programmes such as exhibitions, laser shows, and cultural shows.
The main function will be held in Shivaji Park in Dadar, where the exhibition called 'Suvarna Maharashtra Darshan' will also be held.
Girgaum Chowpatty and Marine Drive are the spots chosen for the laser show, say media reports.
There is a stiff competition between Bal Thackeray's Shiv Sena and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) as both the parties are on a campaign to put up a better show than the other to prove to the people of Maharashtra their dedication to the state.
While Sena has invited musical legend Lata Mangeshkar, MNS has roped in Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to add to the glitter of the celebrations.
The Maharashtra Divas or Maharashtra Din celebrations is not limited to May 1 as both the parties have already held various programmes over the past few days.
While Sena had a blood donation camp on Apr 25 when 25,000 bottles of blood were collected, MNS organised a food festival and cooking competition called 'Maharashtra Majha,' which lasted for five-days.
The other parties are not far behind as Samajwadi Party has planned a 'Mushayara' in Hindi and Urdu at Malvani in suburban Malad, while Mumbai unit of the Congress opted for an elaborate cultural programme.
