Doctor couple questioned in spy case

Jammu, Apr 29: Doctor couple in Rajouri have interrogated by security agencies for their role in espionage case involving an arrested Indian diplomat, Madhuri Gupta.

According to highly placed sources, Dr Khem Raj Sharma and his wife Dr Champa Sharma were questioned by a team of officials for nearly two hours in connection with the spying case at Sunderbani in Rajouri district on Wednesday, Apr 28, night.

Champa Sharma revealed during the interrogation that arrested diplomat Madhuri Gupta had visited her at the Sunderbani residence for a day on Mar 29, after coming from Pakistan via Wagha border in a Toyota vehicle registered in Pakistan.

She said that they had visited various places in Jammu with a close friend, Dr Prem Lata, who had arrive at her place at the same time.

Gupta left for Pakistan, while Dr Prem Lata left for residence in Delhi.

The officials of Military Intelligence (MI) visited the doctor couple's residence to verify details of Gupta's vehicle in which she had come.

Champa said that she was introduced to Gupta by her friend Prem Lata, who was her batch mate at Lady Harding Medical College in Delhi.

According to sources she said that apart from speaking to each other over the phone, they had never exchanged emails. She added that she had opened an email account just 10-15 days ago.

Sources said that the Army officer whose had been linked to the case is Dr Champa's brother and he is posted at Meerut.

Citing that the couple has been cooperative in the investigation, they said that their role in the case appeared to be negligible.
