New Delhi, Apr 28: Indicating the existence of corruption at the highest levels of administration, a top home ministry official, identified as O Ravi, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of accepting bribe.
The arrest was made after the CBI conducted raids on Ravi's house on Wednesday, Apr 28 morning.
CBI has charged Ravi of accepting a Rs 50 lakh as bribe from Alok Khimani, a distiller in Daman and Diu.
Khimani, who faces tax evasion charges, wanted to use Ravi to get the present administrator posted by the Centre in the Union Territory removed.
Ravi is a 1983 batch IAS officer belonging to Gujarat cadre. Currently, he holds the office of the Joint Secretary (Disaster Management) with the Union Home Ministry.
Ravi also headed one of the Central teams which visited flood-hit areas in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in 2009.
