Arrest of Lalit Modi, Union ministers sought in IPL controversy

By Super Admin

Kolkata, April 25 (ANI): Members of a youth group here on Sunday demanded the arrest of individuals associated with the Indian Premier League's (IPL) financial irregularities.

The group has demanded arrest of IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi, former Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for being allegedly associated with betting in IPL, and demanded the cessation of cheerleading routines by the cheerleaders during the matches.

"We want (that) in the name of sport, sport is a means of entertainment, betting is going on and that must come to an end, and people associated with betting should be arrested. In the field, the vulgar dance by the cheerleading girls should be stopped completely," said Kanohan Adhikary, a leader of All Indian Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), the youth group.

The Income Tax Department on April 14 had begun a probe into the source of funds of various franchisees of the IPL while the Central Government pledged to reach to the bottom of the allegations and counter-allegations. (ANI)
