Lalu demands abolishment of cricket governing bodies

Patna (Bihar), Apr 24 (ANI): Former Union Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday demanded all cricket governing bodies in India should be disbanded and the Central Government should administer the game.

Lalu Prasad Yadav said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) should be dissolved and the game of cricket should be nationalized.

He reiterated that IPL was a money laundering business and the country's black money stashed in Swiss banks was being used in it.

"The country's black money in Swiss banks is being routed in this. I have always said this and I am saying it again, it has been proved now. The game of cricket should be nationalized and the IPL and the BCCI should be disbanded. The government should take over the game," said Yadav, who is also the President of the Bihar Cricket Association.

Earlier, the leaders of Opposition had proposed the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe into the matter.

A team of Income Tax officials is probing the alleged financial irregularities in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the multi-million-dollar cricket tournament.

Income Tax officials have quizzed IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi twice over alleged financial irregularities in the IPL. The question of free equity to some directors of franchises is also under the scanner.

The 10 franchises under scrutiny are Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab and the new entrants, - Kochi's Rendezvous Sports and Pune's Sahara group. (ANI)
